What we treat
Back Pain Treatment Lichfield
Back pain is the most common reason people come to us. Whether it's a sudden injury, a disc problem that's been building for months, or the kind of chronic lower back ache that's just become part of your life - we treat the cause, not just the symptoms. As a Master's-trained chiropractor offering spinal adjustment, dry needling, and deep tissue massage under one roof, we can do more in a single appointment than most clinics can across several.
Cause
What's Actually Causing Your Back Pain?
Most back pain comes from one of three sources - and identifying which one matters, because the treatment is different for each.
Joint Restriction
When the small joints of the spine lose their normal movement, the surrounding muscles tighten to compensate. This creates the classic pattern of stiffness, aching, and pain that worsens with sitting or standing for long periods. Chiropractic adjustment restores that movement directly.
Muscle Tension & Trigger Points
Deep muscular tension - particularly in the paraspinal muscles and glutes - can refer pain across the lower back and into the legs. Hands-on massage and dry needling release these trigger points far more effectively than stretching or rest alone.
Disc Problems & Nerve Irritation
A bulging or herniated disc puts pressure on the surrounding nerves, causing pain, numbness, or tingling that can travel into the buttock and leg (sciatica). We assess disc-related problems carefully and use a combination of gentle adjustment, soft tissue work, and targeted rehab exercises to reduce pressure and restore function.
Conditions
Conditions We Treat
Lower Back Pain
Acute or chronic lower back pain - from muscle strain, joint restriction, or postural loading - is what we treat most. We identify the specific structures involved and apply the right combination of adjustment, needling, and soft tissue work to resolve it, not just manage it.
Sciatica
Sciatica - pain, numbness, or tingling running from the lower back into the leg - is usually caused by nerve irritation at the lumbar spine or piriformis muscle. We identify the source and treat it directly. Most patients see significant improvement within 4-6 sessions.
Disc Problems (Bulging & Herniated Discs)
Disc problems respond well to conservative care when treated correctly. We use gentle, specific techniques to reduce pressure on the affected disc and surrounding nerves, combined with targeted exercises to support long-term recovery.
Chronic Back Pain
Long-standing back pain that hasn't responded to other treatments often has multiple contributing factors - joint restriction, muscle tension, and movement habits all playing a role. Our combined approach addresses all three in a single appointment.
Postural Back Pain
Hours at a desk, long commutes, and repetitive movement patterns load the spine unevenly over time. We correct the joint and muscle dysfunction that results, and give you the tools to prevent it coming back.
Neck Pain & Tension Headaches
Neck pain - from joint restriction, muscle tension, or disc irritation - often travels hand in hand with back pain. We treat the full spine, not just the area that hurts most. Tension headaches driven by upper cervical restriction respond particularly well to chiropractic adjustment combined with dry needling into the suboccipital and trapezius muscles.
Treatment
How We Treat Back Pain at The Chiropractic Studio
We don't use a one-size-fits-all protocol. Every patient gets a thorough assessment first - we need to understand what's actually driving your pain before we treat it. Most patients receive a combination of:
- Chiropractic adjustment to restore joint movement
- Dry needling to release deep muscular trigger points
- Deep tissue massage to reduce surrounding muscle tension
- A short home exercise plan to lock in the change
All of this happens under one roof, with one practitioner, in a single appointment. No referrals, no fragmented care.
First visit
What to Expect at Your First Appointment
Your first appointment is 45-60 minutes. We take a full history of your symptoms, how they started, and what makes them better or worse. We then carry out a hands-on assessment of your spine and surrounding muscles. In most cases, we begin treatment in the same session. By the end, you'll have a clear picture of what's causing your pain and a realistic estimate of how many sessions you'll need.
